A strong presence in the Colorado legal community for over eight decades, Bayer & Carey, P.C. traces its roots to the partnership of Sheldon, Bayer, McLean, & Glasman, a Denver practice commenced in 1932 by its founding partner and Colorado native, Charles. W. Sheldon, Jr. (1908-1980).  Led by the efforts of our namesake partners, James T. Bayer (1925-2012) and Raymond G. Carey, Jr. (1944-1992), we have provided quality legal services to insurance, business, and individual clients throughout Colorado.

Having evolved out of a multifaceted legal practice focused on insurance defense, corporate litigation, family law, personal injury defense, estate planning, and worker’s compensation, our firm now emphasizes the representation of insurance companies and their policy holders in civil litigation and appellate work.  We have also retained the personality of a general practice firm, delivering skillful representation of our clients in fields of business litigation, government, labor and employment, and state and local taxation.

Our attorneys are members of the American Bar Association, the Colorado Bar Association, the the Colorado Defense Lawyers Association, the Defense Research Institute, the American Board of Trial Advocates, and the Colorado Hispanic Bar Association.  Our attorneys are also admitted to practice in Federal District Court in Colorado, the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals, the United States Tax Court, the United States Claims Court, and the United States Supreme Court.

Since Mr. Sheldon opened our doors over eighty years ago, we have made a strong commitment to give back to our Colorado communities.  Our attorneys are engaged in volunteer and pro bono work with the Colorado Bar Association’s High School Mock Trial Program, the Rocky Mountain Children’s Law Center, Denver Urban Ministries, Law Line 9, Brent’s Place, and the Genesee Foundation.
